作者岩村和朗，一九三九年生於東京。他在東京藝術大學畢業後，一度曾任職美術設計及電視卡通節目。然後，他全心全意投入了圖畫書的創作。最有意義的，是他厭倦東京都市生活，毅然帶領家人到郊外，自己選地、蓋家屋、尋水源，克服種種生活困難，過「回歸自然」的生活。從這經歷，我們可以充分瞭解岩村和朗創作「十四隻老鼠」靈感來源了。

「十四隻老鼠」以家族三代老鼠大家庭為主角，系列圖畫書包括：
